This tool creates a legend view for active or pre-selected view(s) showing all types of selected categories in a view or sheet.


Main features of the tool are:

  • It creates legend view for either active or pre-selected view, sheet or schedule.
  • It creates legend views for multiple pre-selected views, sheets or schedules.
  • The list of categories is the ones existing in the project.
  • The parameters shown are the ones common to the categories you have selected plus two parameters Compound Layers and Compound Layers (Width).
  • The UI I divided into two sections. The Left section is used for selection of categories which are going to be included in a legend. The Right section is used for selection of the parameters we want to have include in a legend.
  • A legend view can be created with a header that contains a header parameter name for every parameter included in the legend. It’s possible to modify the header names changing the header names in the UI or editing the header in a legend view.
  • The legend view name created in active view or pre-selected single view will suggest the tool, but it can be changed.
  • Pre-selected multiple views, sheets or schedules requires to use option add source name to legend name or you need to enter the legend name.


The active view workflow consists of the following steps:

  1. Run command Type Symbols
  2. Select one or more categories on left section of IU
  3. Select one or up to 10 parameters on right side of UI
  4. Optional select the use header to get visible parameter names in the header
  5. Optional edit the legend view name
  6. Optional sort the parameters in the legend using the up/down arrows
  7. Select create button

The pre-select view workflow consists of the following steps:

  1. Pre-select view, sheet or schedule in the project browser
  2. Run command Type Symbols
  3. Select one or more categories on left section of IU
  4. Select one or up to 10 parameters on right side of UI
  5. Optional select the use header to get visible parameter names in the header
  6. Optional sort the parameters in the legend using the up/down arrows
  7. Optional select add source name to legend name or edit the legend view name
  8. Select create button


Hide unchecked parameters to make it easier to change the order of how the parameters will be displayed in the legend view.

All these settings are saved and used for repeated work.
