Update Project

Update Project allows you to update parameters with one single click on the icon "Update Now" or on a specific event.

You can configure Project Settings or a personal setting, My Settings, to use. The Project Settings is shared by all users in the project but My Settings is specific for each user. The setting selected in the drop down list is used.


Update Now

Use this tool to update the project based on what has been configured for "Manual" update in the active setting (Project Settings or My Settings)

Configure

Configure what to update on what event (Save, Print, Export, Synch and Manual). Check the "Manual" event to include in "Update Now". 


Click on Configure button to do additional configuration for the updater or click Update to run the updater manually.

You can also run each updater individually by selecting the tool in the pull down menu to the right in the Update Project panel. Last used tool will be the default tool.

Configured settings are stored per project and can be transferred between projects by Naviate Transfer Settings tool.

Working with Work-shared environments (Collaboration Mode)

The performance has been improved on many updaters to report back if elements could not be updated due to work-sharing issues (locked by other user) or if the element belongs to a group and cannot be updated.

The report has been implemented on the following updaters:

  •  Shared Elevation
  •  Shared Coordinates
  •  Relative Elevation
  •  Schedule Levels              
  •  Sheet Scale Parameter
  •  Sheet Format Parameters
  •  Sheet Revision Parameters
  •  Synchronize Yes/No Parameters
  •  Update Doors
  •  Update Windows
  •  Circuit Numbering
  •  Transfer Calculated Values


Notes and Tips:

  • Elements can be updated within a group if the parameter that needs to be updated can vary in group (set to an "vary by group instance").
  • Elements in group which already have a correct value for the updated parameter will be counted as updated even though updated parameter can not vary in group (is not set to "vary by group instance").
  • Report will only be presented to you if there are any excluded elements.
  • If you update elements trough Update Project or Update Now you will not be able to see number of excluded elements or be able to "Create Report View" , but just be able to see for what reason are elements excluded. 
  • Elements will be excluded if they are in the group and parameter that needs to be updated can not vary in group ( is not set to "vary by group instance" ) or elements belong to another user ( Work - Sharing environment).


Schedule Level 

Schedule Level can be used to create an instance parameter with information on which level an element is hosted on. You will need to manually run the function whenever these parameters should be updated. Starting the function, you will be asked which categories to affect - the result will be written to a shared text parameter: CQ Schedule Level. 

Please note that if you would like to use this functionality on other categories the Combine Parameters function can provide the same functionality and is available on the Naviate General ribbon. In Revit 2013, using this function on elements in groups might cause unpredictable behavior.



Workflow:

  1. Open Manual Update.
  2. Open Schedule Level.
  3. Toggle categories you want update.
  4. Press OK and elements will be updated.


Report

After updating of elements is done, you will be provided with a report informing you of how many elements has been updated and how many of them has been excluded together with an explanation of why elements has been excluded. You can also create a 3D view of excluded elements directly from the report dialog just by easily checking "Create Report View" checkbox and after you close the report dialog, the 3D view of excluded elements will be automatically created and you will be able to find it in Project Browser.


Shared Elevations 

Shared Elevations gives you the global (shared) top and bottom elevation values for specific categories. Following Naviate 2015.2 web update 1 this function works consistently on all Revit Categories in the following way:                

For nested shared families the Top/Bottom values are derived from geometry bounding box of the nested family.

For the main family the Top/Bottom values are derived from the geometry bounding box as a whole including the nested families.
So any sub components you need separate values for, such as concrete footings and steel piles, needs to be nested shared components.

You could use this to tag the global elevation values for window sill heights.
Or the top and bottom of concrete framing such as beams.

We update the following parameters which you can use in standard object tags:

Workflow:

  1. Open Manual Update
  2. Open Shared Elevation
  3. Check categories for elements you want to update.
  4. Press OK to update elements. 



Report

Relative Elevation 

Relative Elevation allows you to tag the mounting height on different kind of objects. For example you could use this to tag outlets and switches in your model.  It transfer Revit's Offset and Elevation parameters to a tag able shared parameter called "CQRelativeElevation" for use in tags. It is designed to work on the following objects:

After you invoke Relative Elevations function, Naviate gives you report about number of updated elements. On the following picture there is example where you can find "CQRelativeElevation" parameter.


Workflow:

  1. Open Manual Update
  2. Click on Relative Elevation (elements will be automatically updated).



Report

Mirror Status 

This tool lets you to write value to the parameter for mirrored and not mirrored instances.

Main features of the tool are:

  • The function can select categories in the project to write/update text parameter value at elements in the model
  • The function works with loadable families/categories in a project
  • The function works with any project text parameter
  • The function can run from the update project tool.


The workflow consists of the following steps:

  1. Run command Mirror Status under the manual update tool drop down list
  2. Select one or more categories on left section of IU
  3. Select one text parameter on right side of UI
  4. Write a value for mirrored and not mirrored instances
  5. Click the update button to complete process


When you run function from Manual Update the ok button will update mirror status parameter, close the dialog and create report. 

If the mirror status parameter isn’t updated on some of elements you can create report 3D view with excluded elements.

When you run function from automatic update the ok button will save a mirror status parameter setting and close the dialog.

A mirror status parameter will be updated depends of configuration you checked in, and report will be created only if the mirror status parameter can’t be updated.


 Shared Coordinates 

Project Update feature can be configured to update shared coordinates on families for categories that exist in the project. After Update, X, Y and Z coordinates for the insertion point and angle are written to parameters on each instance.  If you want to remove these parameters from a category for some reason you have to manually edit parameters in "Project Parameter" tool in Revit. 

  • Use shift/ctrl to select multiple categories and check or uncheck all of them in one click or use right click to get quick-menu.  Using quick menu you can easy check, uncheck or toggle all categories in the list.
  • Multiple users in a project can update different categories using"my settings" without deleting values from other categories
  • Shared Coordinates also updates all Survey Markers placed in the projects and/or in families. See below how to place a survey marker.

Synchronize Yes/No Parameters 

 It is common that you use instance Yes/No parameters to drive the visibility of different graphic aspects of Title Blocks. In Revit you have to open each sheet and select the Title Block placed there.


This function creates a new yes/no instance parameters on the sheet.

When we run the configuration function we can select what parameters are going to be created on the sheet by selecting the parameters in the parameter list.

Since Sheet properties are quicker to access, and also can be found in sheet list schedules, it is more effective and secure to work at that level.

Run the function again to transfer your changes of your new sheet properties back to the Title block and the graphic of your drawing is updated.

The synchronize yes/no parameter is completed with report.


Workflow:

  1. Open Manual Update.
  2. Open Synchronize Yes/No Parameters.
  3. Check parameters you want to Synchronize.
  4. Press OK. 


Sheet Scale Parameters 

The behavior of the built-in scale parameter is not satisfactory in many projects. One common wish is that you want to show all the different scales in a sheet on your drawing list. This function writes text strings in two selected sheet parameters. One with all the full scales listed and one with the half scales. This information can then be used in Title Blocks and Sheet Lists. You set up which parameters to update in the Sheet Scale Parameter Settings function.


Sheet Format Parameter  

This function is useful if you have a Title Block family with different types for each sheet size and want the Sheet to automatically detect what size is displayed in a sheet list. It copies the value from any (configurable) parameter on the title block to a fixed parameter (NVTitleBlockFormat) on the sheet.


Sheet Revision Parameters  

This function integrates a workflow using Revit's Built-In revision tools. The workflow starts with adding comments to your revision clouds. The function transfers the comments from different clouds to your Sheet properties together with other important revision information. This information can be shown and handled in sheet lists schedules. The purpose is to document all your revisions in a more automated and secure way.


Place Survey Marker

You can place survey markers at strategic locations in your families and/or project file. The Survey Markers are updated when running Shared Coordinates updater. If you are just nesting survey markers then the host family can be of any category. The following parameters are updated:

  • CQCoordinatesX
  • CQCoordinatesY
  • CQCoordinatesZ
  • CQAngle

For nested families these parameters are updated:

  • CQParentFamilyAndType (Family and typename of the host)
  • CQParentFamilyMark (Mark value from the host)

Update Doors/ Windows 

These functions updates several different parameters and can be used in a number of different ways.You will need to manually run the function whenever these parameters should be changed. The saved settings can be updated by configurations in the Update Project tool.

Wall Gross Area

Calculates the gross area for Walls and writes the area to Walls on parameter CQWallGrossArea.


Door/Window Area  

This function updates Door and Window Areas by Room, and upgraded to calculate CQWallNetPerimeter. It will subtract Door Width, Widow Width (if Sill Height is 0.0) and Room Separation Lines from the Default Perimeter Parameter on Rooms.The areas are written to parameters CQDoorArea and CQWindowArea and CQWallNetPerimeter.


Wall Perimeter  

The perimeter of walls is added as a shared parameter on rooms, named CQWallNetPerimeter.


Wall Height 

The function calculates the height of walls and writes the value on the walls on parameters CQWallHeight.

Wall Orientation 

The function determines  the orientation of walls and writes the value on the walls on parameters CQVIPOrientation.


Circuit Numbering  

Update electrical circuit numbers according to changes in Circuit Numbering settings. CQCircuitNumber parameter will be updated automatically with the chosen event (Save, Print,Export, Synchronization or Manual Update).


Cable Tray Pattern 

Update Cable Tray Pattern to show pattern aligned to element.


Update Text 

The function updates text objects inserted in Revit model.


Update symbols  

Allows you to Update rebar symbols automatically every time you save your project, print, do export or sync, after editing rebars or scale.

 3D Zone Update Parameters   

Allows you to copy parameters from zones to elements inside zones in one single click after certain events. Update is run on all zones in your project.



Rebar Placement 

 Allows you to Update "NVRebarPlacement" parameter with the appropriate abbreviation according to the Rebar placement in to the host element.


Transfer Calculated Values  

Use values calculated in a schedule for tagging or export. You can now transfer a calculated (or combined) field from a schedule to a parameter on the element.


Cut Length

 Allows you to Update "CQSteeDetailingLength" parameter which shows  length for both beams and columns without running the Steel Detailing feature.


Batch Combine Parameters

Apply changes to multiple parameters by applying multiple saved Combine Parameter settings in a specified order in a  single click.
